National Math Honor Society

Objective

    • To promote scholarship in mathematics and establishing math as an integral part of high school

Application Requirements

    • Senior year student

    • Currently enrolled or completed Calculus 1 (AP or non-AP)

    • Maintained a 4.0 overall GPA

    • Maintained a 4.0 weighted Math GPA

    • Completion of at least one honors math course

    • Initiation fee of $20 (one-time fee)

Member Requirements

    • Attend at least 6 out of 8 chapter meetings

    • Complete at least 10 hours of service

    • Attend at least 5 board-approved events

Service Opportunities/Events

    • Tutoring (Final Exam, Elementary School, Late Start)

    • RMS Mathletes Assistant Coach

    • Pi Day Event

    • Bowling

NMHS Executive Board

President

    1. Chairs all meetings

    2. Acts as spokesperson for NMHS at school related events which involve NMHS

    3. Acts as direct NMHS representative to principal, PTO, and school board when necessary

    4. Speaks at NMHS induction ceremony

    5. Sets executive board meeting times with the advisors

    6. Delivers annual report to principal and membership

    7. Works directly with and is answerable to NMHS advisors

    8. Assumes all duties and responsibilities that may occur during the year

Vice-President

    1. Chairs meetings in president’s absence

    2. Sets agenda for all meetings

    3. Chairs and directs all committees within NMHS

    4. Receives reports from committees and passes them on to executive board

    5. Sets executive board meeting agenda

    6. Works directly with and is answerable to NMHS advisors

    7. Assumes all duties and responsibilities that may occur during the year

Secretary

    1. Acts as official recorder for all information regarding NMHS

    2. Is the public relations director for NMHS

    3. Records minutes of membership meetings and sees to their publication and distribution in a timely fashion

    4. Communicates directly with parents regarding induction ceremonies, graduation, etc.

    5. Chairs the social committee

    6. Records executive board minutes

    7. Works directly with and is answerable to NMHS advisors

    8. Assumes all duties and responsibilities that may occur during the year

Treasurer

    1. Is responsible for all financial dealings with NMHS

    2. Records all financial transactions

    3. Records and collects membership dues

    4. Provides financial report to executive board and general meeting as needed

    5. Provides annual financial report to principal and membership

    6. Works directly with and is answerable to NMHS advisors

    7. Assumes all duties and responsibilities that may occur during the year

Publicist

    1. Keeps the news media (i.e. the school paper, the local paper, and radio and television stations, etc.) informed of programs, speakers, awards, and honors

    2. Works closely with the school's newspaper and yearbook staff

    3. Keeps the principal and other school and/or district administrators in the loop

    4. Makes certain that fliers and banners are posted and that announcements concerning chapter events are made in a timely fashion
